Joe Brandl and his sons have a love for western history. Growing up in Nebraska and settling in Wyoming, Joe has experienced the beginning of western exploration with the Oregon Trail in Nebraska to the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming. His two boys have experienced camp life in a tipi re- enacting the period of the 1800's. They have been to the Rocky Mountain school of trapping, hunting, fishing, and tanning hides the old way. We have always believed that it is one thing to read about history, but quite another to live it. The Brandl's are blessed to live in a place where western history unfolded the last 200 years. |
......They have traveled the routes of the mountain men by foot, horseback, and canoe. They have camped where the old Indian people pitched their lodges. The crafts and experiences that early people learned are practiced daily. Bow and arrow making, starting fire by flint & steel, hunting with muzzleloaders, crafting buckskin clothing and eating the foods of earlier times.
......When Joe presents a program about the Plains Indians, the American Fur Trade or the Buffalo Days, he reflects on the daily living conditions, the common sense approach to survival in the west. Historical myths and beliefs are dispelled by showing tools, weapons, clothing, toys and other items used by people of the past.

.....Joe has created costumes and props for several films, documentaries and museums. Many of these items are used during presentations. Joe has spoken to schools, museums, guest lodges, wildlife agencies, and other interest groups throughout the west. Each program is tailored to fit each group. Joe brings his degree in Wildlife Management, outdoor experiences, and love of history to each program.
